Mother’s Day is around the corner…which means that many of us are once again trying to come up with new, thoughtful ways to let our moms know just how much they mean to us.

Ackermans is once again running its ‘Celebrate Mom’ competition, where South Africans can post a special message to their mothers or the mother-figure in their lives on the Ackermans website which appears instantly in the gallery. This message is SMSed to moms on Mother’s Day by Ackermans, free of charge.

“In addition, when you post a message for your mom via the site, she is automatically entered into the Celebrate Mom competition, where she stands a chance to become one of nine moms across the country to win a makeover – including hair, make-up and clothing – for herself and a friend,” says Tanya Ruiters, Marketing Specialist at Ackermans.

And it doesn’t end there. The Celebrate Mom Bus will travel through all nine provinces with its mobile Glam Squad, who will conduct makeovers on the nine winning mothers (one from each province) and their besties. Once the makeovers are revealed via Ackermans’ website and social media, the public is called upon to vote for the best makeover duo.

“The winners of ‘South Africa’s Favourite Makeover Pair’ get an all-expenses paid trip to Cape Town, a professional photoshoot and a feature on the Ackermans’ channels,” says Ruiters.

Mavis Mudau from Thohoyandou, Limpopo, who won ‘Best makeover’ last year, says that “the experience was nothing short of amazing. As mothers, it’s so easy to forget ourselves and just focus on providing the best life for our children, but it is important to look after ourselves too. This competition really helped me feel more beautiful,” Mudau says.

The initiative is part of the retailer’s ongoing drive to better understand and add value to the lives of its customers. Explains Ruiters, “Celebrate Mom – as the name implies – is all about making moms feel special and showing appreciation for the sacrifices they make for their families.”
