Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd (TVET SA) was the proud recipient of the National Skills Authority (NSA) Silver Award for Best Practice in Skills Development.

The award was handed over to the Directors of TVET SA, Mrs Jennifer Choice and Ms Theresa Otto during a prestigious awards dinner hosted by the National Skills Authority (NSA) on 14 March 2019. Honorary guests at the dinner included the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Naledi Pandor, and other high-ranking government officials and stakeholders in the skills development landscape. Receiving the Silver Award for Best Practice in Skills Development was a remarkable accomplishment for TVET SA and indicative of the college’s unwavering efforts to constantly strive to achieve excellence and deliver high-quality and relevant skills development interventions.

The NSA had set rigorous criteria for the 2019 National Skills Development Awards and invited companies, public and private training providers, and community organisations to submit applications to their relevant SETAs for nomination to the NSA who verified the validity of the applications during monitoring and evaluation visits the shortlisted applicants. The NSA team visited the main campus of TVET SA where a thorough audit of processes and procedures were undertaken. The final adjudication process to allocate the various awards was the responsibility of an independent selection committee and was verified by the Auditor-General.

Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd was recognised for implementing best practice in Skills Development during the 2017/18 skills development reporting period. During this period TVET SA enrolled more than 320 learners employed in the clothing and textiles manufacturing sector on accredited skills programmes and achieved a success rate exceeding 82%. The learner achievements were celebrated in July 2017 and again in June 2018 during Industry Graduation Ceremonies held in Cape Town.

The Directors of Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd attributed the success of the college to the long-standing partnerships between the college, their industry partners and the FP&M SETA as well as the dedication of the TVET SA team.
